Notes

Tips to help you make the best meatball sandwiches:

  1. Mixing Meatball Ingredients:
    • Be gentle when mixing the meatball ingredients to avoid making the meatballs tough. Mix until just combined.
  2. Consistent Size:
    • Try to make the meatballs a consistent size to ensure even cooking. This helps them cook uniformly and makes for a better presentation in the sandwich.
  3. Baking Meatballs:
    • Baking the meatballs in the oven is a healthier option than frying. Make sure to space them out on the baking sheet, so they cook evenly and develop a nice crust.
  4. Sauce Flavor:
    • Taste the tomato sauce as it simmers and adjust the seasoning accordingly. If you like a bit of heat, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  5. Bread Choice:
    • Choose a good-quality baguette or sub roll for your sandwich. You can lightly toast it before assembling to add extra texture.
  6. Cheese Melting:
    • If you want the cheese to melt evenly, place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for a minute or two after baking. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
  7. Fresh Ingredients:
    • Use fresh herbs like parsley and basil for a burst of flavor. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese also adds a rich and authentic taste.
  8. Serving Suggestions:
    • Serve the sandwiches with a side of extra tomato sauce for dipping or some marinara on the side for those who enjoy saucier sandwiches.
  9. Prep Ahead:
    • You can prepare the meatballs and sauce in advance and assemble the sandwiches just before serving. This is a great time-saving option for busy days.
  10. Customize:
    • Feel free to customize the recipe by adding ingredients like sautéed onions, bell peppers, or even a drizzle of balsamic glaze for added flavor.
  11. Reheating:
    • If you have leftovers, reheat the meatballs and sauce separately to maintain the texture. Assemble the sandwiches just before serving to keep the bread from getting soggy.
  12. Freezing:
    • Meatballs can be frozen after baking. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container. Thaw them in the refrigerator before reheating.
Remember, these tips are guidelines, and you can always adjust the recipe to suit your preferences. Enjoy your delicious meatball sandwiches!
