Equipment

  • Non-Stick Frying Pans
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Measuring Cups & Spoons
  • Whisks
  • Spatulas
  • Pancake Turners
  • Pancake Dispensers

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • ½ tsp Baking soda
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ¾ tsp Buttermilk
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted butter for greasing the pan

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, milk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Do not overmix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.
  • Preheat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lightly coat with cooking spray or butter.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the griddle for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges begin to look set.
  • Flip the pancake and cook the other side until golden brown.
  • Remove the pancakes from the griddle and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the pancakes warm with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Tips for Perfecting Your Old Fashioned Pancake Recipe

While old fashioned pancakes are relatively simple to make, a few tips can help you achieve pancake perfection:
  1. Use a non-stick skillet or griddle to ensure that your pancakes don't stick to the surface.
  2. Preheat your skillet or griddle before pouring the batter to ensure even cooking.
  3. Avoid overmixing the batter, as this can lead to tough pancakes. A few lumps are perfectly fine.
  4. Let the batter rest for a few minutes before cooking. This allows the gluten to relax and results in fluffier pancakes.
  5. Cook the pancakes on medium heat to prevent burning.
  6. Keep the cooked pancakes warm by placing them on a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F) until ready to serve.
  7. Serve the pancakes immediately for the best taste and texture.
